"One boy made fun of me because one day, I had really curly hair, and I wear glasses normally, and I also bite my nails. I feel like everyone is different in their own way, so, people shouldn't try to make them feel bad because of that."

Sundance Phoebe Showtimes Announced
The Sundance Film Festival for 2008 will kick off on January 17, and with any luck Elle will be marking her second appearance at Park City in as many years. Phoebe In Wonderland, will make its world premiere at the festival, with a total of five showings beginning on Sunday January 20 at 2:30pm. For a full list of dates and times, check out the official website, which also includes a fascinating new synopsis of the film.
As an examination of normalcy and madness, this is realistic and cerebral storytelling, but it is also extravagantly magical, a metaphorical fable that examines childhood, our attempts to understand it, and the way we, as parents and teachers, navigate its treacherous shoals. A film full of strangeness, exhilarating moments of realization, and painfully real revelations, Phoebe in Wonderland is an honest and thoughtful work that is not to be missed.

Living In With Cameron Diaz
The casting director for My Sister’s Keeper, Matthew Barry, has revealed the director's plans to create believable family chemistry between his leads. Dakota and Elle (playing sisters Anna and Kate) will actually shack up with their on-screen mother, Cameron Diaz, for a month before filming begins. Says the casting director himself, "Nick [Cassavetes], our director, is making them actually live together for a month before they start the film, so they really can get to know each other." The news comes from a feature at the 'Backstage' website, where industry professionals are quizzed about their know-how (this week's topic: casting chemistry). My Sister's Keeper is reportedly scheduled to begin shooting March 3.

The Nutcracker Merchandising Blitz
We have a lot to look forward to when Elle’s film Nutcracker – The Untold Story is released at the end of this year. It seems the film's licensing firm has planned a line of merchandise aimed at young girls, including toys, clothing, confectionery, gifts and greetings, while boys will be targeted by graphic novels and action figures. Penguin has also secured the right to a range of Nutcracker-themed books for released in October 2008, which will "reflect the magical style of the film and bring the classic story to life for a new generation. The collection will include a hard back storybook for younger readers, a novelisation, a paper-engineered pop-up book, sticker and activity books, along with a picture book and read along CD with exclusive content." There will also be a range of Nutcracker-themed festive decorations, including "seasonal ornaments, nutcrackers, 3D figurines, snowglobes, night lights and yard decor." To cap it all off, there is some suggestion Elle may make an appearance at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting event, to promote the film. Jodie Foster 'Moved' by Phoebe In Wonderland
One very special guest at the premiere screening of Phoebe in Wonderland was former child star Jodie Foster, who apparently made the trip to Sundance just to see the film. According to EW.com's Popwatch, it made quite an impression on her.
One scene in particular — in which Phoebe sobs in her mother's arms, helpless to explain what is wrong — moved me and, from what I could tell, Foster, quite deeply. We'll see if the film made the same impression on distributors like the folks from Miramax, who I spotted on the way out.

Skiing at Sundance with Picabo Street
Because Dakota is currently filming The Secret Life of Bees, Elle has stepped in to take her place as part of the 2008 Picabo's Ski Challenge. According to a new article, "a beaming Elle Fanning looked cute as can be in her pink snow suit, pink hat and blue wire-rimmed glasses," for her lesson with Olympic skiier Picabo Street. Says Elle, "I love Picabo." The event aims to raise awareness, and money, for the prevention of child abuse, and Elle was more than hapy to step in for such a great cause. "I think it's a really, really great thing to do," she said. Read the full article here.

Phoebe in Wonderland Closing A Deal
In fantastic news, Hollywood Deal has revealed that "Phoebe in Wonderland, which is represented by Endeavor and United Talent Agency, could be the next buzzed-about film at the Sundance Film Festival to close a deal." This would mean a distribution of the film into theatres, where folks like you and me have the chance to see it too.
At a Sundance reception at Shabu today, Ben Barnz, the producer, said a deal was being brokered as he spoke for this drama about a young girl (Elle Fanning, Dakota's sister) who loses herself in a make-believe world to escape her disruptive home and school life. Felicity Huffman also stars.

My Sister's Keeper No More
Variety has confirmed that, unfortunately, Dakota and Elle are no longer attached to My Sister's Keeper. Sofia Vassilieva (Medium) will replace Dakota in the role of Kate, while Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) will take over Elle's role as Anna. According to Variety, the reason for Dakota and Elle dropping out isn't clear, although: "sources said Dakota Fanning balked at a request that she shave her head for the role and both sisters withdrew abruptly."
For more details check the full article. Even though it's terribly disappointing for everyone who wanted to see Dakota and Elle finally appear together onscreen, this does mean Elle will be able to film Vivaldi as it's scheduled to begin shooting on March 15.

The Nutcracker Release Postponed
Unfortunately, the release of Elle's movie The Nutcracker has been pushed back to Christmas 2009. Here is an official quote as to why from the director, Andrei Konchalovsky:
“We want the film to positively sparkle off the screen and take the audience’s breath away. I hope we have in the can some extraordinary magical moments, and we now want to take our time and apply all the changes in CGI and Special Effects technology available to us, to realise the full potential of the film that we set out to make.”

A Very Brave Witch Audiobook
To add to Elle's growing resume, it appears she did some voice work recently for an audiobook. The book is entitled "A Very Brave Witch". I'm unsure at the moment where you can buy this, or if you even can at the moment. But it is 5 minutes long and Elle narrates the whole tale.

Stand Up 2 Cancer Commercial
Elle has filmed a commercial for the new initiative, Stand up 2 Cancer. It has been directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven, Panic Room, etc). You can read a mother's account of the shoot here. It will probably air on TV and in theatres around the USA this summer.
Each commercial has a celebrity. On this particular shoot, we had Elle Fanning, Dakota’s little sister. She was sort of quiet and didn’t really interact with anyone that I saw. She was down by the pool with the kids, but she was off to the side, dressed in clothes, sitting on the grass. The rest of the kids were in bathing suits, and either in or around the pool. Pooper initially sat on the side, dangling his feet, but eventually the director had him in the water, splashing around, and Pooper was thrilled.
The commercial starts with the adults talking, kids playing in the pool, and then Elle stands up. We are all cued to slowly, curiously, notice that Elle is standing and then one by one we all stand up to, staring into the camera the entire time. The commercial ends with all of us standing, including the kids that are now on the sides of the pool, and we are all staring into the camera.

September and October News
It's looking like the next few months will be a busier time for Elle than the past few. On September 5th, Elle is set to appear on an hour-long Stand Up To Cancer telethon, which will air live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS and NBC. Hopefully we will manage to get some clips and caps from that for the site! Aswell as this, Elle is scheduled to make an appearance at the 2008 Power of Youth event with Dakota on the 4th of October. We also have some more Phoebe in Wonderland promotion to look forward to I'm sure!
