New Details on 'Déjà vu' Emerge
New info on Elle's part in this movie are popping up like flowers in spring :) She plays 'Janice Harris', the daughter of a Navy Sailer. She is currently shooting her part, with at least one scene shot at Algiers Ferry. An extra on the film writes:
[Elle] plays the daughter of a Navy Sailor. I play a Navy Sailor, and I saw her as we were shooting a scene at the Algiers Ferry. I was walking back to one of our tent's, when I saw Elle. She had a very big coat on, so I asked her wasn't she a little small for the jacket. She smiled and giggled, and said "yup yup!" She looks exactly like her sister and just as cute.
The film has been in production since February. Originally prepared for shooting last year, production was delayed by Hurricane Katrina. The film is the first to be shot in New Orleans since the Hurricane.

Role in 'Cheese' Finally Revealed
Please note that this news contains spoilers for 'I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With' - if you want Elle's role to be a surprise, don't read any further :) After this movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday (Apr 27), the full details on Elle's role in this movie have finally been revealed. Penelope, her character, is the daughter of Luca (David Pasquesi), a friend of the main character, James (Jeff Garlin). She features in two scenes, both with Jeff Garlin, and is adorable in the part.
Her first scene takes place in a classroom, as James gives a talk to the students for Careers Day; Penelope has some close-ups and lines in this scene. Later, she also features in a scene where James goes to school to pick Penelope up, just as an opportunity to talk to Stella (Bonnie Hunt). Stella wants to speak to James alone, so she sends Penelope off to "find her lunchbox", though she runs back a moment later, remembering that "today is pizza day, so I didn't bring my lunchbox." The scene is very cute, and some of Elle's first gentle forays into comedic acting.
This film is still screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, so if you are in New York, be sure to check it out. Details are on the Tribeca Film Festival website. Thanks kindly to the person who attended the premiere, and thought to send this information in - we really appreciate it.

New Film: P.N.O.K.
Though it has already been filmed and shown at a film festival, Elle's movie P.N.O.K. (which stands for "Primary Next Of Kin") has only just been discovered now. The film's synopsis reads:
PNOK (Primary Next of Kin) is a short film that follows two soldiers as they inform three families that their loved one has been killed in Iraq. Featuring performances by Danny Glover, Irma P. Hall, Robert Ri'chard, Archie Drury, Tina Lifford, Elle Fanning and Kathryn Avery-Hansen, this relevant and thought-provoking film should not be missed.

Elle shines in P.N.O.K.
Though the film is short, Elle's performance in P.N.O.K. (Primary Next Of Kin) is likely to be one of her most memorable. The writer who penned the film, Karyn Beach, describes Elle's scene as a "powerful" and important one. The film involves the journey of two soldiers, who must visit three families and inform them of the death of their loved one in the Iraq war. Of Elle's scene, Karyn writes:
She is part of the last 'visitation' that the soldiers must make. She is playing outside when she sees the two soldiers pull up and walk up to her house. From a distance, one of the soldiers resembles her father and she runs to him shouting "Daddy! Daddy!" The soliders who have been trying to keep their emotions in almost lose it in the face of this little girl. It's a powerful scene and she was great.
Karyn, who met with Elle and her family during filming, describes them as "very nice and down-to-earth people". She says that Elle is just as sweet off-screen as we always imagined, playing with the other kids on set in between takes, and being "basically just a sweet and charming little girl."
The film is likely to be released, in full, on the internet. It was first screened at the Nashville Film Festival in April. Directed by Carolyn McDonald, it runs for 19 minutes. Thank you very kindly to Karyn Beach for sharing the details on this fascinating project!

Changes to The Nines
Elle's upcoming film is no longer called The Nines - it's now temporarily untitled. John August, the writer/director, has branded it 'The Movie' in his blog, which is a worthwhile read for tidbits on the movie! He describes it as a "drama - hopefully funny in places, but unlikely to be slotted in the 'comedy' section of Blockbuster." Of our favorite little actress, he writes:
Elle's terrific in the movie. She has a small part -- she only worked three days -- but everyone in the cast and crew adored her.
The Movie will probably be playing festivals in 2007, and if a distributor picks up the rights, "maybe, maybe [showing] up in theaters at the end of 2007 - but 2008 is probably more likely." It took only 24 days to shoot.

New Movie: The King Of California
Elle has a rumoured role as 'Lena' in this new film, which also stars Evan Rachel Wood and Michael Douglas. Since the film has already been in production since early May, it's like that Elle's role is quite small. The plot reads:
This kooky comedy centers on the quirky relationship between a father (Douglas) and his daughter (Wood). The teenage girl is forced to take control and act as the grown-up in order to look after her oddball father. The tables are turned when her father convinces her that ancient Spanish gold is buried under the Wal-Mart next to the Simi Valley development, where they live.
According to IMDB, the role is currently 'in negotiation'. Stay tuned.

Who will she play in Criminal Minds?
We are in for a treat, because it looks like Elle's role in Criminal Minds will be a juicy one! I should warn you that this news contains spoilers on Elle's part in this episode, so if you're anxious to see it through fresh eyes, it's probably best not to read on any further. You can know that this won't reveal the killer - or the fate of Elle's character.
Elle will be playing eight-year-old Tracy Belle, who is sweet and innocent. One scene in particular asks a lot of such a young actress - to run, and cry, in fear - but Elle obviously took up the challenge with gusto because she won the part (even though it was designed strictly for actors over 9 years old!) This scene takes place at a bus stop, where Elle is waiting for her mom to pick her up. The killer tricks her into walking home with him. When she grows tired and begins to whine, he becomes angry and whacks her with a baseball bat - shocked and terrified, she runs through the woods, bleeding and afraid. Tune in to the episode and find out whether our favorite girl survives!
This episode is filming this week, and is all set to air on October 26. Check your local guides for details :)

New Movie: Reservation Road
Elle has booked her first lead role! She will play Emma Learner in the new movie Reservation Road, as the daughter of Joaquin Phoenix. Her character is an eight-year-old consumed by guilt after the tragic death of her brother, Josh, for which she blames herself. A synopsis from Production Weekly reads:
The novel tells of two families whose lives are intertwined when one father accidentally kills the son of the other family in a hit-and-run accident. At the close of a beautiful summer day near the quiet Connecticut town where they live, the Learner family -- Ethan and Grace, their children, Josh and Emma -- stop at a gas station on their way home from a concert. Josh Learner, lost in a 10-year-old's private world, is standing at the edge of the road when a car comes racing around the bend. He is hit and instantly killed. The car speeds away.
From this moment forward, the story becomes a harrowing countdown to the confrontation between two very different men. The hit-and-run driver is a small-town lawyer named Dwight Arno, a man in desperate need of a second chance. Dwight is also the father of a ten-year-old boy, who was asleep in the car the night Josh Learner was killed. Now Dwight must decide whether to run from his crime or to pay the price for what he did. Ethan Learner, a respected professor of literature at a small New England college, has seen his orderly world shattered in a single moment, yet persists in the belief that he can find the unknown man who killed his son. Behind their stories are those of eight-year-old Emma, who can't stop thinking her brother's death was her fault, and of Grace, who must find the strength to keep herself and her family together, and to be the mother Emma so badly needs.
Shooting has already begun this week, in Connecticut.

Article on The Lost Room
The Lost Room was featured in an article from the December issue of Sci Fi magazine, which was released this week. Elle mentions abound. Some highlights of the article:
• "Like, there is a wonderful scene where my daughter, Anna, as we are leaving the house in the movie, she has to go back and get this specific stuffed animal of hers. It's very real. Any parent can tell you there are many times when you are trying to get in a car or leave the house where you have to go back and get an object." - Peter Krause
• Harkcom says it's those moments between father and daughter that make The Lost Room shine. "It has thrilled us how beautiful the relationship [is that Peter] developed with Elle. Those moments have been even better than what we could have hoped, largely because of what he brought to that aspect of the role, as a father to this little girl. Those are some of the most beautiful and genuine moments in the pilot between Peter and Elle."
